KUALA TERENGGANU, May 29 – The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) has issued compounds totaling RM256,800 to retailers, wholesalers and breeders across the country for non-compliance with the maximum price control regime for chicken and eggs entered into force in February. 5.
His Deputy Minister Datuk Rosol Wahid said there were 1,034 cases covering various offenses including selling items above the ceiling price and not displaying special price tags as instructed.
A total of 1,033 commercial items worth RM133,000 were also seized during the same period.
“As of yesterday, we have inspected 66,375 premises at retail, wholesale and producer level,” he told reporters during the KPDNHEP Aidilfitri celebration here today.
Of the total number of cases, he said 41 cases were sanctioned for not displaying price tags, selling above the ceiling price (111 cases) and not displaying special price tags (882 cases). ).
Rosol said the KPDNHEP law enforcement team has been instructed to increase surveillance in some premises to detect wandering traders.
“If we look at the trends, the price of chicken or food will go up within a week or two before the price control system ends and that needs to be fixed,” he said.
Rosol also assured that there would be no shortage of food for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration. — Bernama
