ALOR GAJAH, December 5 – The government’s decision to allow the importation of frozen whole chicken is expected to help lower the price of the item in the market, said the secretary general of the Ministry of Home Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP ), Datuk Seri. Hasnol Zam Zam Ahmad.
He said the action is expected to cause oversupply in the local market, but at the same time, other factors have also influenced domestic prices, including frozen chicken prices set by producing countries.
âNormally the prices will drop slightly when there is more supply in the market, but first we need to see the effect of importing frozen whole chicken on the market supply in this country.
âAnd if the prices (of whole frozen chicken) in the countries of origin are much lower than the prices offered in the country, maybe the prices that traders can offer are also low.
“But we have not yet obtained information on the matter as it is managed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries (MAFI),” he said after a visit to the Malaysian Family Sales Program ( PJKM) here today.
Hasnol Zam Zam was commenting on MAFI’s announcement of government authorization to import frozen whole chicken for a period of three months from this month until February 2022.
He said the KPDNHEP is also revising the maximum price of standard chicken for retail (RM 9.30 per kilogram) and wholesale (RM 8 per kilogram), in the future if chicken prices on the country market were returning to normal.
“Which we will look at just like the other elements as well.” For example, face masks, which, despite setting a ceiling price of 0.70 RM, prices have fallen lower than that, following many offers, including from abroad, âhe said. he declares.
In another development, he said the PJKM will be expanded more widely and its organization will be expanded after next February if there is a high need or demand from the people. – Bernama
