Doha: Qatar recorded a merchandise trade surplus (difference between total exports and imports) of QR 39.9 billion in the first quarter of this year, compared to QR 33.6 billion in the first quarter (Q1 ) of 2020, according to data published by the Planning and Statistics Authority.
The value of Qatar’s total exports (including domestic product exports and re-exports) in the first quarter of 2021, amounted to QR 64 billion, increased by QR 4.5 billion (7.5%) 59, QR 5 billion in the first quarter of 2020. Exports increased by almost QR 14 0.9 billion or 30.4% from the fourth quarter of 2020.

The value of Qatar’s imports in the first quarter of 2021 was QR 24 billion; which decreased by QR 1.9 billion (7.3%) compared to imports of QR 25.9 billion in the first quarter of 2020. A decrease of almost QR 0.3 billion or 1.3% was recorded compared to the fourth quarter of 2020.
The year-over-year decline in import values ââis mainly due to the decrease in machinery and transport equipment of QR 1.6 billion (15.3%), from raw materials, inedible to exception of fuels of QR 0.3 billion (29.2%), manufactured products classified mainly by material. of QR 0.4 billion (9.1%). On the other hand, increases were recorded mainly in chemicals and related products of QR 0.2 billion (10.1 percent) and food and live animals of 0.07 billion (2.7 percent). ).
During the first quarter of 2021, Asia was the main destination of Qatar’s exports and the first origin of Qatar’s imports, accounting for 81.8% and 40.7% respectively, followed by the European Union, representing respectively 7 , 7% and 31.8%, and the CCG, with 4.1% and 3.2% respectively.

Qatar’s foreign merchandise trade surplus stood at QR 24.7 billion in the fourth quarter of last year (Q4 2020), down from the QR 38.4 billion recorded for the corresponding quarter in 2019.
In the fourth quarter of 2020, the value of Qatar’s total exports (including domestic goods exports and re-exports) amounted to QR 49.1 billion, which decreased by QR 16.7 billion (25 , 4%) compared to RQ 65.7 billion during the same period in 2019.
